2024 National Holstein Convention
Maryland is planning to send youth participants to the 2024 National Holstein Convention this June in Salt Lake City, Utah. The convention dates are June 24 – 27.

Maryland can send up to two dairy bowl teams, a junior, intermediate, and senior jeopardy contestant and up to three speech contestants. Youth may not compete in jeopardy and dairy bowl in the same year. It is possible to compete in speech and jeopardy/dairy bowl contest. Participants must be National Holstein Junior members. There is a one time fee to join junior Holstein and membership lasts through the year you turn 21. Youth may only compete in the same contest/division three times (this is a National Holstein Rule).
Youth will be expected to attend practices to get ready for the national contest. Participants will also be asked to donate an item to the silent auction at the MD Holstein Convention to help cover travel cost to attend the contest. We will be flying to the convention. Animal Ownership Dates – All animals must be owned by July 1st
Maryland Show Rules
We encourage every junior to show his/her own animal. In situations that a substitute leadsman is needed, the substitute must be the same age or younger as the exhibitor and must have received approval before the show with a legitimate excuse approved by the show chairman.
Maryland Leasing Rules
For those of you involved with the MD leasing program and interested in competing on the National Level, please consult the following National Holstein website and take notice of any rules to be eligible. One thing to note is the difference of leasing dates compared to MD. The national ownership date for leasing is January 1st of the project year.
